Maggie, start with the base color of your home. Is it brick? If so, what color, beige, red, brown? Is your home hardy board or painted? Begin there. Then I would personally paint the front door and any coordinated shutters in a contrasting pop of color! For example, our home is red brick, with white hardy board on the front porch. It is currently white and the shutters and under eaves brown. I plan on painting the trim and front door a nice cranberry to make it pop but still different from the brick. Hope this helps, post a picture when your done!
You could take a photo of your house and use Canva.com to put boxes of color over the front door to get a sense of what different colors would look like with your house color.
