what kind of paint to use over brick
I just white washed the red interior brick in my kitchen. Used 1 cup of flat white interior paint mixed with one cup of water. Used a 2 inch brush to apply the paint. I had to go over some of the bricks again because too much red showed through. What do you think? You didn't mention whether you were wanting to paint interior or exterior paint.

If you want the brick look, I used a product called BrickDye. It comes from England but it worked real well. I used it 3 years ago and it still looks like I just did it. The company has a lot of pictures and ideas online for you to look through. It was pretty easy, too.
A good Latex Semi Gloss paint is what I have always used for brick or cinder block. The trick is you need to wet the area with water first, because if you don’t, it will soak up so much paint. If you are outside just spray the brick with your hose, and if you are inside use a spray bottle or a large sprayer sold in the garden supplies, if it is a large area. Prewetting the area with the water, makes the paint cover much easier. Just be sure to use a water based paint. If you want to use an oil based paint, then prime the brick with a water based paint first. You can easily paint over brick that has already been painted. Well, good luck with your project.

Hi Sandra, Dixie Belle is awesome over brick. I am attaching a before and after pix so you can see what it looks like. We do recommend you to water it down before using it because the brick does tend to be very porous. Have fun!
