I need to replace my countertops and wanted to install granite or better yet quartz and I was wondering if it is feasible for this to be a DIY. Do you have any comments on this or any suggestions.?

thank you.

They have to be cut to fit by somebody in that business. The machine to cut these rocks are big and expensive.

Installing them is no big problem other then being heavy unless you have corners which have to be joined. Then it takes the xperts.

If you shop around you can get fair deals on the total job.

I paid about $2500 for 192" of counter top plus a 6' by 40" island top. That included the measurment, cutting, delivery and installation. Also included the sink.

Why not use a kit and paint them to look like granite? Cheaper and you can do that yourself.

I agree with Archie. Exact measurements need to be taken. Slab needs to be cut with all openings for sink and faucet. Sanded and polished. Very heavy. About four strong people. Proper install, leveling, and support. Not a DIY job.

This is a job that is better left to the professionals. They can make any seam disappear and it is worth the money. Just as Archie and William have pointed out everything needs to be measured and some of the openings need to be cut on site. I have had both quartz and granite in two of my kitchens and I prefer the quartz.
