Is it possible to redo laminate countertowith glass mosaic?

We currently have 20+ year old laminate countertops in an ugly butcher block pattern. I recently sanded and painted the old wood cabinets with light and bluish grey trim, and added a grey backsplash 😁 I’m playing with ideas for the countertops. I Would love to have them be light and artistic.

Depending on how many square feet, it will take two to ten cans of textured spray paint in the color of your choice to re-create your countertops. Be sure to have them very clean, and rough them up with coarse sandpaper before you spray. It will take two to three coats, and you _must_ let it dry thoroughly between each coat. I did this with a plain white vinyl countertop and it worked out swell!

BTW I love the new look!

Thank you for your suggestions. I don’t want to paint them. I’ve seen it done and don’t care for them. I want to do glass mosaic countertops 😁

Before building a mosaic design on a laminate countertop, make sure the laminate is in good shape. Small rips and tears are fine because they will be filled in with the adhesive you use for the mosaic. Repair any areas of laminate that are peeling up from the counter surface and allow it to dry thoroughly. Then lightly abrade the laminate anywhere the mosaic tiles will be applied, using a coarse, 50-grit sandpaper. For large surfaces, use an electric sander. Always wear safety goggles and a dust mask, and clean up all sanding dust before applying tile adhesive.

It can be done on flat and square edge countertops. I don't know how you would handle the bullnose of your countertop. Otherwise use Rustoleum, Dauch, or Giani countertop paint kit.

Thank you for the information. I believe we’re going to give them straight edges before tiling 😁

Whatever you do - be sure it is safe for food and easy to clean.
