How long does it take for a potted lemon tree to produce fruit?
My nephew planted a lemon seed 3 Summers ago, and would like to know how long it takes to grow lemons, or what he can do to promote growth?
The plant has been trimmed back once already.
Thanks.

It takes 3-5 years for the plant to actually bear fruit. Here is a great link that could help https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/lemons/lemon-tree-not-fruiting.htm
It will take 3-5 years AND 2 other lemon trees. Citrus trees have to have other trees to cross pollinate. If it doesn't have at least 2 other trees then the blooms will not develop into fruit.
It takes about 3 years. I have had mine for 5 years and last year I pruned it to within an inch of its life because it was not making bark and all the leaves kept falling off. Suddenly it started growing real limbs and the trunk became a trunk and it had about 30 blossoms this spring. I pollinated the blossoms to each other and I now have 3 large lemons. Takes them about 6 months to ripen. I don't think you need another tree!
Thank you.
