How to prepare for painting my house inside and outside?

I am in the process of painting the outside of my house. There are a lot of cracks (some of them very deep and long) which need to be filled. What should I use for the deep cracks. I think Polyfiller should work for the smaller ones. Also, do I have to strip all the old paint off the walls or just scrape where it is coming off?

I just moved into my house a month ago. I had nicks and cracks and the previous owners painted eggplant and dark brown walls. I swear by behr paints....but I was just overwhelmed with the 11 rooms I had to do. WOW painters came and dud all my 11 rooms in one day......10 hours to be exact......with 6-10 painters. WOW what a difference. It saved me a lot of work, back pain and the time line was FANTASTIC.
