Planted trees in backyard. Both died. I was told that the ground has caliche. Is there any way to treat the soil to be able to plant trees.
First cut out a hole big enough to put dirt in it you could use a drill and drill a bunch of small holes then chisel it out to create a bigger hole. I recommend using annuals since the have a shallow root system .
HI Jackie. Mine was hollowed out by making a lot of cuts in the center with a chain saw. Then using a very long drill bit several holes were drilled into the sides of it so the water would drain out. Then filled it with dirt. I would grow wave petunias in mine. I would just plant them around the outside leaving enough room for a smaller pot in the center. Then I would also put a petunia in the pot. It gave it more of a topiary look. Good Luck!
