    Bar keepers Friend. Works great on brass and copper.

    Commercial brass cleaner - there are lots of good ones. BUT beware if it is lacquer coated, and has tarnished where that has partially come off, you may have to remove the lacquer.

    Try hot sauce or ketchup.

    If it isn't coated, and not a large item, toothpaste can work. Just make sure you don't press too hard as the abrasive may leave marks.

    Brasso is designed for brass but I've heard these other methods work well. It's what I used to clean all my husband's army gear, the only thing that lived up to their standards.
