Hi, Cha: you can't fix Formica, it will have to be removed which is bad because you probably can't match what is there, etc., etc. But, it can be covered up! My sweet Auntie (at 95) put a very hot skillet on the Formica instead of on the burner. She got a ceramic hot plate large enough to cover the burn, glued it over the spot and it looks like it was intentional! You could also use a cutting board the appropriate size, or even larger and it would be a work surface right next to the burners. All this is assuming, of course, that the burned spot is near the stove top!
You really probably can't repair the Formica but you could cover it with a good brand of Contact paper applied carefully, it will look intentional.
A countertop paint kit (there is one by Giani available through Amazon) might be good for your situation.
