How do you clean a shower floor drain?
Do I need to remove the floor plate that is screwed on. Or can I pour a product through it?

You should be able to pour through it, Sharyn.
I just unscrew the drain plug (don't lose your screws down there!) & start removing all the guck w tweezers & anything long & skinny to drag the gunk to the surface. It's pretty gross but it works like a charm!
