What do they mean by mixing a "medium" when doing paints on canvas??
My granddaughter is 10 and wants to do some of the pouring art on canvas for her room. What does she need to mix with her paint or does she coat it after it dries?

Hi Pegi! I craft with my granddaughter and I keep some things handy so I can look up her questions and come up with new ideas. Here's an article explaining different terms:

Is it acrylic paint she working with ? A medium is an extender to change the flow/ consistency of the paint. Is trying to get a dripping effect ? More info please ?
She needs Floetrol, which you can buy at Lowe’s in the paint department, to add to the paint to make it the viscosity of thin pancake batter. She will also need acrylic paint (craft paint will work-so will house paint, actually) and some WD40 to add a drop to each color that she uses. This will make “cells”..those cool circles. She will also need some gloves, a covering for,the surface she will be working on, and some small plastic cups with popcicle sticks for stirrers. Oh, and some old clothes that you don’t mind getting paint all over! This type of painting is so much fun! Contact me if you have any further questions. And you can either spray it (after it thoroughly dries and you/she cleans the WD40 off) with a clear coat (available anywhere) or not. It doesn’t HAVE to be coated.
all of these answers are very helpful. Thanks so much
