Yes! I'd use some vinegar & Dawn dish soap to clean off kitchen grease, rinse off soap thoroughly and let dry overnight.
It's up to you to remove doors and hardware. Or not. If you do, make little marks to remind you where each door goes.

Why not, it's just paint but you might need some sort of sealer.. Look on utube for suggestions

Personally I wouldn't recommend sealing with wax, it's not durable enough for kitchen cabinets. If you want to use chalk paint, use a clear sealer on top (like General Finishes High Performance Topcoat)

Chalk paint will not even with the wax sealer hold up as well. Why not use enamel? People use chalk paint as no sanding is required. A kitchen is not a little table - it is part of the house, and you investment.
