Living tree cannot be cut down but it's a messy one?
Is there some way to kill off a tree which really serves no purpose but is messy and brings nothing but insects and clean up work - something that can be added to the soil around it? It is not allowed to be cut down as it is still alive.

What is the best method for killing grass around trees?
Hi, I would like to know how to kill the grass around the base of a tree without harming the tree itself. Any information is greatly appreciated, thank you.
cut tree down with about a 12 inch stump. Purchase a stump killer, drill hole in stump and pout the poison down the hole. It may take 2 or 3 times but it will kill it.
Hi Tic; you can drill large slanted holes in the bottom of the tree, just above ground level, all around the tree. Fill the holes with straight, concentrated (NOT diluted) weed killer that shows on the label that it will kill trees. After filling the holes, wad up some aluminum foil and push it into each hole to seal it to prevent evaporation. Then sit back and let the tree kill itself by absorbing the weed killer down into its roots. This also keeps the weed killer from getting on the grass and into the ground around the tree. Hope this helps.
If you want to get rid of the tree, why can't you just take it down? It may be alive, but that doesn't mean you can't remove it. Cut the smaller branches off, then start cutting the larger branches until you can cut down the rest safely. Use a stump killer or leave a taller stump and use it as part of your landscaping to put pots on it or turn it into a birdbath.
