Peach Scab. Peach scab, also known as “freckles”, is caused by the fungus Cladosporium carpophilum. Disease symptoms occur on the fruit as small (less than ¼ inch in diameter) velvety dark spots and cracks. In cases of severe infection, spotsmay join together to form large dark lesions.

I had wonderful peaches last year, this year is a bust. I blame the weather, and look forward to another chance next year. We also have lots of critters, and I am sure they help spread spores and diseases, so I am considering netting.
Go to your state Dept of Agriculture website and look for info on peach diseases. I know in PA this site even tells you what to spray and when. While it is meant for commercial fruit growers, I've learned a lot about when to spray and thin fruit from this site and it's totally free!
