Not a question, but a shout-out to my husband!
My wonderful husband has put up with my insatiable need to be creative the entire 26 years we've been together (3 yrs dating, 23 married). This week, in between working on a final project for a class toward my master's degree, I decided to make a wooden screen door for our front door. Using pine 1x4's, I made a farmhouse-style door (all it needs now is the screen attached and I can install it). Yesterday, when at the lumberyard to buy one last piece of pretty moulding to put on the front of the door, I came across a display of--you guessed it--ready-to-hang wooden screen doors! I looked at the price tag and gasped; they were less than half of what I'd spent in supplies to make mine! When telling my husband this later in the evening, he looked at me with a big smile and simply said, "How much entertainment and creative value did you get out of making it yourself?" He was right.
Cost of supplies to make my door: $155
Cost of ready-made door that probably wouldn't fit anyway: $75
Fun I had making my own door: Priceless
For everything else, there's MasterCard. :-)

Lol! Hes right, DIY'S have so much more fun!
Nicki....YOU are the reason Hometalk even exists. I'm often the same way about certain projects and I have a friend to bounce ideas off of. We see something we like and say, we can buy that.....but what fun is that? So, we start in and make it and often like it even better than the one that gave us the inspiration. DIY is just in our DNA. It's wonderful that your hubby "gets it" and I bet he gets a lot of enjoyment from watching the trials and tribulations of your creativity. Life is Good!
