How to make a cheap walkout?

Our basement , full sized, needs a walkout. What would be the cheapest way to make a safe escape?

If you're mainly concerned about a safe exit, then you may consider having someone put in an "egress" window rather than a "walkout". I've had it done (professionally) and it gives great peace of mind. However, it's not cheap. I don't mean to sound discouraging, just be careful about making large openings into your house's exterior walls without proper planning. Good luck.
Check your local building codes, they have specific rules and regulations to follow. Also check with your local Fire Marshall. Many times they will come out for free and offer recommendations. What you want and what the law requires may be two different things.
