Camphor trees are used in medicinal treatments for congestion like Vicks Vapo Rub and topical pain relief rubs, and some remedies for heart conditions. Some people can have a severe allergic reaction to this tree when pruning or digging up suckers. The fruit of the tree is toxic to humans. Contains safole oil which is used in sassafras to flavor root beer.

Chinese medicine uses the roots of the Cassia Cinnamon tree to prepare a bathing solution for stroke victims. This tree has a chemical, coumarin,, that is mildly toxic which requires you to restrict it to 1-2 teaspoons a day. Cinnamon is used by diabetics to control blood sugar but this should be the Ceylon variety..

The better cinnamon comes from the Ceylon Cinnamon tree which does not have the toxin coumarin,. It is softer, brittle layers.

Found no evidence the roots of either are toxic, but generally in medicinals the root of a plant can have more of essential oils. The tree and its parts are very pungent, you might be developing an allergy.
