For an inexpensive fix Use The Works toilet bowl cleaner (not the gel kind). It will cut through the buildup. Make sure wear rubber gloves and don’t get it on your skin or in your eyes. Don’t get it on your faucect or fixtures. It will ruin them. You can slip out the drain cover and tape a plastic bag around the faucet. Just pour on the works and watch the fun. Wipe it down and rinse well.

Try using CLR Rust Remover. It is environmentally friendly.
Hello, I agree with Christine on using the works toilet bowl cleaner. Just make sure you do not get the cheap one that says basic on it.
