Painting over existing wall art ?
I have three pieces that I would like to paint over with white paint and put a “farmhouse” saying such as “gather,” “farmhouse,” “family”
I’m curious if anyone else has done this before & what they used? Pictures too if you have them. I want to get more of a farmhouse look to update my house. Thank you in advance

No, sorry I haven't done this before and am sorry that you will paint over these pretty paintings. However, if you are determined you could use a flat white paint then stencil the letters over the top. Try Cutting Edge or Royal Stencils.
I have painted over canvas paintings, but just looking at your pictures it appears to me that they are prints on paper. If they are prints you run the risk of the paper wrinkling if you try to paint over them. I would take them out of the frame to make sure which they are before painting. They are too pretty to possibly ruin, but you could always paint and then insert a canvas or a thin luan board in the frame and achieve the same look you are seeking. Just my opinion. Best wishes.
You could put thin wood over the pictures and that way you could preserve the pictures in case you ever want to use them again. Paint the wood before you put it in the frame in front of the picture, put the backing back on and you have the farmhouse style pictures you wanted and also preserved the original pictures for safe keeping.
I would leave the pictures as is and get some pieces of wood and sand and paint them, the put your sayings on them.
You could cut a piece of contact paper that resembles reclaimed wood to put over the painting, leaving the backing paper on so you don't ruin the original, if you decide to reuse it. You can use an acrylic paint pen for your lettering.
Thank you for all of your ideas!!
I've painted on glass with chalk paint. If you have a cutting machine or a friend with one, you can cut out the word in vinyl. Or you could buy a decal on etsy.
If you take the picture out to paint over it, be careful with the glass. I break it every time.
The best suggestion I read here was to use luan and paint it before putting into the frames. Keep the original pictures, just reassemble with the new luan saying in front of the old. Old pictures can be quite valuable, so take care of them. 😃
