Keep floor vents clean?
We live in an older house with large floor vents (1in square gap grates), 3 kids and 2 kittens so everything seems to manage to get into the vents and then the air ducts.
Is there a way to help reduce the amount of "junk" that falls through but won't block airflow?

How to fix or clean this old yucky chalk and grout?
I tried to clean this grout and chalk that's old and yucky. Nothing works. Should I peel chalk off and put new chalk on? And paint on grout?
Hi Alana. I'm Cindy. Take the top of the grate off and lay a layer of netting below it. The air can still get through but items won't. You can purchase it from any sewing store (like JoAnn Fabrics) very inexpensive. Some stores call it tulle. Duct tape it to the bottom of the grate.
Could you perhaps lift up the vents and lay some plastic wire/or ordinary wire (small guage) across the hole, then replace the vents on top? That would catch all the junk, but not be too visable.
Cut a piece of screen and put on the underside of the vent cover with duct tape or contact cement.
You can buy screening (yes - the kind you use on a house screen) at any big box hardware store. Cut it about 1 inch all around larger than your vent cover. Place it over the vent then place the cover on it. It will trap all the hair and "stuff". Just make sure to clean it monthly as you need to keep a good air flow.
