Hi Cheryl, Some people do put it in the dishwasher but I am not a big fan of putting it in the dishwasher as I think it would evenually clog up my dishwasher with all that grease. Here is a site that has a good way to do it and this is the one I go by on my own filter.

I put it in the dishwasher, haven't had problems.
Cheryl,. Take the filters off the hood and place them in hot water with 1 gallon with a half cup vinegar. Let it soak. Rinse with hot water with the sprayer on your sink if you have one. Aloha!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I ended up spraying it with 409 and letting it set for a bit. Then I pour boiling water over it and it got rid of most of the grease. There was some grease left so I pour Oxi stain remover over the stubborn places and let it sit awhile and then pour boiling water over the filter and it looks great.
