Usually once the plastic starts to yellow it's permanent.
I can only speak regarding my experience. I live in an apt building that is about 40yrs old, & we, who reside here in, all have fiberglass bathtubs. When I moved in about 5 yrs ago my tub looked very dingy, kind of a greyish- yellow. Not at all appealing. I scrubbed it down with Clorox bleach and a smallish round scrub brush that is normally used for glasses, dishes, etc. At the time it was the only scrub brush I could find (as I had only just moved in here a day before). The tub came out clean so I could take a hot bath & soak my achey muscles, but it looked really dingy. 6 months ago, I scrubbed tub down with a thick paste of baking soda & white vinegar, and a thicker, wider brush plus a new "firm" toothbrush. Left the paste on everywhere for about an hour, then washed it all off with hot water. I was amazed how clean & white it became. Now I love it and it's very clean.
