It's usually attached via clips that will permit you to pull lightly to lower it a few inches. It will need cleaned with Spin n' Span or Dawn dish liquid to cut the grime. Rinse with vinegar, then plain water. While there, sweep out the vent area for dust build up, which poses a fire hazard.
Clean this vent at least 2x/month.
There should be screws you can remove and full it off. If not, it's a spring loaded mount, should be able to use a putty knife to pry down so you can release the brackets. Once down can wash in sink with a soft scrub brush in hot soapy Dawn water.
Hi Pauline,
I'm Linda and I also have a vent in our bathroom that gets dusty and needs cleaning. I have found that all I have to do is loosen one side and the rest of it will drop down on a bracket that is inside of the vent. Your's may be different though. Try gently loosening in on each side to see if it will come down. You can also look for screws to see if it's installed using those to keep it up. In either case, you can clean them with vinegar and water with a few drops of Dawn. Put vinegar & water (50% each) into a spray bottle then add a little less than a teaspoon on Dawn. Shake it up then spray it on the vent. Wipe it down with a soft or a microfiber cloth and it should look like new. Sometimes I even use an old white sock to wipe it down because it helps me clean it more easily. Wishing you the best!

Thanks for all the responses but there's one thing I forgot to mention the air vent is part of the light fixture.
