How do I keep hard water stains off oil rubbed bronze faucets?

I have an oil rubbed brone faucet and the decorative spout shows white hard water stains on it. Is there a way to get them off, and more importantly, a hack for preventing them? So ugly to see a dark colored pouring spout look horrible with white water stains.

Lime-a-way? I'd spray the faucet periodically with wd-40 to keep it from happening again.

Seems like my water is so hard, it appears after just a few days. I was hoping there was some miracle trick like "mix olive oil and toothpaste together to create a barrier to prevent the hard water from sticking to the faucet, haha." I think lime away will be good for getting it off initially, just didnt want to use it so frequently. Thank you for the advice.

You may need to invest in a water softener system rather than having a constant worry about hard water deposits.

  • My water is like that too. I just am in the habit of wiping the faucet down after each use. I live alone, so easy to do. With a family and with kids, not so much. Look into installing a whole house water filtration system, as it will help.

Hi Lori, I'm in the same situation and I feel your pain. We have the same idea to keep the faucet oiled. If you drink water from this faucet make sure the oil you use is safe for consumption. Keep a small decorative bottle of oil nearby and apply a fresh new coat every time you wipe down the faucet and after cleaning it.

I have the most trouble with the matching drain plugs in the bathroom sinks. I rub on a drop of argon oil (meant for conditioning hair). It beads up beautifully and doesn't wash off with stays on the plug until sink scrubbing time .

As far as what you can use now to remove existing mineral build careful! Check with the manufacturer. Different processes are used to create an o.r.b. finish and some can be surprisingly delicate.

    Install a Water Softener.
