How do I use Elmer's glue to add crackle to a wood project?

I've seen where you put Elmer's glue on a piece of wood, then paint it and it gives it a crackle finish. I have questions about this process for instance do you let the glue dry before you paint?

Great question, I just recently purchased the crackle medium it was $9 a jar, I look forward to the responses here.

  • Hi Marlissa! I can tell you how to do crackle on your project with Dixie Belle Crackle! :)

It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle:

Step one: Clean with White Lightning

Step two: Paint one to two coats of whatever color of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint you want the cracks to be (or just use clear coat if you want the wood to show through)

Step three: Apply a coat of Crackle. The thinner it's applied, the smaller the cracks will be

Step four: Apply whatever top main color of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint you'd like the piece to be

Step five: Use Gator Hide for a water-repellent finish, or any other Dixie Belle Clear Coat
