How do you get that professional ceiling stomp look when doing repairs

    It's basically impossible without redoing entire ceiling. You just have to try to mimic it. Another good reason textured ceilings are seldom done any longer. Much easier to repair smooth. If an insurance claim, make them redo it.

    Take your brush and dip it into the thick compound and just do an upward dab to the area until it builds up to the consistency you want to match. Let it dry thoroughly and be sure to prime paint the areas before putting on your ceiling paint.

    Can you post a picture of the ceiling you are trying to match? You will probably get more detailed and accurate pointers if you do.

    When mine was repaired by professionals, i watched closely. Like joy (above) said that is what they did. They used a wallpaper smoothing brush. Narrow brush about 8 inches long with 4 inch bristles , and only about an inch wide.
