Try one of those cheap plastic drain snakes you can get at the hardware store.
Above all, do not use chemicals!!! Not only toxic to breathe but they will eat/leak through PVC pipe which is used in most plumbing these days. First try $Store plastic drain unclogger. It looks like a wavy piece of plastic about 18" long with little "thorns" that grab hair when you feed it down your drain and pull it up. I keep one on my shower wall on a command hook. Not too intrusive and easy to grab at the first sign of slow draining. Second, keep a plunger (not the one you use for the toilet) and a snake handy. Check Google and/or Lowe's plumbing department for more suggestions.
We use those "Zip It Drain Cleaner" Strips that you can get at Home Depot. They are flexible strips with "teeth" to catch and pull out trash. They are about 18" long and about $10.00 for 2. We wash them and put them back in the sleeve and hang them up with the tools.

On a regular basis, put about 1/2 cup of dry baking soda down your drain and then pour in after it about 1/2 cup of white vinegar! It will suds up but will keep your drain open and smelling good!
you can try putting a bout a cup of baking soda in the drain followed by twice that amount of white vinegar. While yo are doing this have a pan of hot water coming to a boil on the stove.Let the vinegar work for about ten minutes and the follow with the boiling water slowly. If its grease or hair etc. This should work. You might have to to twice if its really bad.Hope this works for you
