Throw a cup of baking soda and some vinegar into the hot water and let it go through a cycle. This should clean it out.

There is a product out there made just for this. Found in grocery stores on the shelves where cleaning products are sold. The name escapes me right now. Hope this helps
Cascade Platinum! Here is picture.
I use the Cascade platinum in my dishwasher and it keeps it pretty clean. I also put vinegar in the rinse aid compartment. I have hard water and the inside of my dishwasher is stainless everywhere. It keeps it pretty clean of the hard water deposits except in the door where the water from the dirty dishes gets drips from the rinse water (I rinse them off because we only do the dishes in the dishwasher once a week and any starchy type stuff will mold).
I use vinegar in the detergent container with hot water and then wipe it down inside, just use the short cycle, no need to run it on extended or scrubber modes.
