why do you want to cover it?
perhaps you could paint the underside or put stained glass contact paper like you use on bathroom windows. it would hide the scratches and fingerprints on the top side.
Try a frosted look with a spray paint - the glass will turn milky and you might not see the scratches so easily. Make sure you can clean the glass after you do the frosting. Ask a salesman and read the instructions carefully. You may have to do the underside and not the top side.
Maybe a table pad and a table cloth
