How to remove rust from the top of a clothes dryer?

    Jan....I would sand then get appliance spray paint...of course, I would recommend to take it outside as well as you want warm weather because the paint can bubble if it's too cool.

    Use sandpaper starting with 200 grit, then 400 and finally 800 (the larger the number the finer the grit). Don’t use a lot of pressure so that you don’t dig into the undamaged surface.


    Once rust free and smooth you can use automotive spray paint, first a primer and then a color coat. You may also be able to find appliance paint that contains primer and color in one.


    If the surface is badly rusted you can use a “rust reverser” like “Naval Jelly” to turn the rust back to metal first. Read all instructions carefully.

    Maybe lightly sand then seal with clear spray. Then you might tape off all but the top and get a spray paint that matches as well as possible, or go with a contrasting color.

    You could try brasso but be careful not to remove paint
