Attach furring strips to your walls where you want to install the peg board. Space them so they will support the edges of your peg board. If you can't hit studs use expanding anchors to hold the furring strips secure. Peg board needs a little space behind it so the hardware (pegs) can be inserted.
You need to place a 2X2 inch frame behind it to hang it so that when you put the hooks on they do not collide with the wall at the back. Screw the peg board on the outer edge to the frame. Hang the frame so that you hit some studs with the screws to give it strength.
