How do I remove an odor from enclosed drawers?
I purchased a Retro ranch, built in the 50th. Love the house, but the built in linen closet, in hallway to Bathroom, has sliding doors, cover 7 drawers for linens. I have tried everything to get rid of the old smell in them. I even had then sitting outside in the sun last year. Baking soda, candles, Glade air fresheners, even those bags you buy that are supposed to kill all odors. My sheets and linens still smell this old smell. I was thinking of painting the inside of the drawers next spring. Hoping someone out here has a working Idea. I love the retro look of the beautiful wood. So I don't want to replace it. Tried to upload a picture, but it says, its to small.

I had a similar problem when a mama red squirrel got in our house one winter while we were gone. I tried everything! Then I just gave up and painted “her” area (to pee) with an enamel high gloss paint to seal the horrible smell in. Worked like a charm. I am pretty sure you could also use high gloss varnish. High gloss because it has a harder surface or so a finish expert told me.
Charcoal that you put in aquarium’s! Sprinkle some in a few paper plates & place around. Leave shut up for a few days. Should work. Charcoal can be rinsed let dry & be stored for next use.
I too, moved into an old house with that "old" odor. Get Sure Shot Fumigator. It gets into everyplace that cleaning can't. Works wonderfully. Follow the directions!
Pauline, panting should do it, but I prefer using an ozone machine. Close it in the closet and turn it on for an hour. Leave it closed up for another hour, then open it up and air it out.
You can poly the drawers. It will block out the smell and you can keep the wood look of your drawers!
Thank you , I 'm thinking Thats what I might do in the spring.
