It is difficult to repair drywall if you do not have experience. You might be better off hiring an experienced drywaller for this project.
Repairing the textured finish on drywall can be difficult because it can be hard to mimic the original texture. Unless of course you know the guy who did it and he can come back and fix it! If you are not confident you can do it yourself have drywall professional come in.

How big an area needs attention and what exactly is the type of repair that needs to be done? Dents, holes, tears, cracks? if you could post a picture, we can give you better advice as well as see the texture. You might be able to do this yourself.
