How do I restore a stainless steel sink back to a new condition?

Soak a rag with white vinegar and lay in on the stains overnight, then polish with a paste made of baking soda a little vinegar. There are also store-bought stainless steel polish that works well too.
Take some steel wool and powdered cleanser or use a Brillo pad. Scrub well. Clean your sink well daily and you'll not have to to this often. Glass cleanser is for glass. Pledge is for furniture.

Have you tried CLR, Calcium, Lime, Rust, that should cut through your hard water deposits. Available at DIY stores.
