In our living room the main wall has a huge alcove built in about 3ft hx 5ft long with a arch. I have no idea what to do with it at present its hid somewhat behind our 65 in flat screen. We are moving to the family room and need idea for the annoying space.

You could put a fireplace in there or make a fake one with candles.

  • Can you post a photo? How about mounting the flat screen in it?

Annoying space? I would love to have it in my house. Add some art work, add shelving.

Would never cover such a cool space with a tv...ouch.

It's hard to believe those deep caverns were considered to be such clever design solutions for the "pre-flatscreen TV" generation. Does the alcove go from the floor up to 5ft?...or start somehere up the wall?

I like the idea of a fireplace or an aquarium.

Is there enough height for a dry bar?

Are you into tea parties? Display a cute rolling tea cart filled with a set of antique china cups.

You could install wainscoting in the room and add hidden storage.

And of course you could demo and open up the area. An alcove usually means there is additional poorly used space within the walls.
