How do I stencil my bathroom floor?
I have used an orbital sander with 80 sandpaper and I am not getting the shine off the tile. I want to stencil the floor. What do you suggest?

Hi this is Peggy. I hope this will help you with your project. I did not see anything about having to sand off the shine. I hope this is what you are looking for. Good luck.

You are using sand paper made for wood, you need sandpaper for glass or ceramic. Are you supposed to ruin the tile first by sanding? I thought it just needed to be very clean. Be careful, scratches will show up on your paint. I hope your project turns out and it's beautiful.
No sanding needed!

Sanding causes scratches and you need sandpaper for sanding tile surfaces. There is also a chance of sanding through the glazing, cracking the glazing. and ruining the tile. Sanding would be acceptable if painting tile a solid color. If you still want to sand try using coarse steel wool. It should cut into the glazing but be careful.
I am going to paint the whole floor one color and then stencil a pattern on each tile. I have some extra tiles. I might just try one and see how the paint holds up.
