How to construct post supports using mesh baskets made of chainlink?
I've seen fencepost and mailbox posts set on the ground in mesh baskets made of fence wire or chainlink. I would like to explore this as a possible construction technique for building a pergola on very rocky ground but haven't been able to track down any guidelines or instructions. Thanks

I live in a very rural area lots of farmland. Our mailboxes are constantly being knocked around by cars, bats, or snowplows. The mesh baskets you have seen may not be the base of the mailbox. It could be that they had a wobbly post they could not reinforce and use the mesh baskets filled with stones, etc. to hold them up. It is hard to get them to stand after a couple times of being knocked around
