Light paint on the walls, lights/lamps and mirrors to reflect the light.
-White, or neutral coloured walls, that do not absorb light
-Lighting on different levels- ceiling, walls, floor lamps, table lamps, and in corners
-LED integrated light fixtures, or bright white LED bulbs (do not emit shadows)
-Sources of light on separate switches and dimmer switches
-Large mirrors to reflect the light from the different sources, above
-Light coloured, glass, or transparent furniture
-Mirrors that feign real windows, such as shutters framing on either side of a mirror, cathedral mirrors, or sets of mirrors
Wall or door murals that have depth perception, or outdoor landscape scenes, is another idea that will 'open' up a room.
