My Long Dark Hallway Needed Some Lights.
Hi Pat, I recently read a post on Home Talk, where a home owner had a dark hallway and made a fake "window" to lighten the hallway up. She made a box with wood, only 1 - 2 inches deep. She put frosted glass on top of the box. (Sorry, I'm not sure how she attached it) Then she put a rope light around the inside. She painted the box to match her hallway, and she even put curtains on it. It really looked like a window and lightened her hall up. I hope this helps you.
Why not put in a skylight or solatube? We did in a bathroom with no windows. People look for a light switch because there is so much light in there during the day.
Mount a pair of shutters on the wall, and behind the shutters on the wall mount LED light strips (similar to the kind used now for under cabinet lighting). For this set up you will need an electrical outlet on the wall or close by on another wall to connect the LED lights to. If your budget permits get a certified electrician to hard wire the lights, then you can turn them on and off with a regular wall light switch.

Hi Pat, hope this you out. You can use a large photo frame and fairy lights for this as well.
