Post a photo of existing structure for better help. Also, give us an idea of size you would like to have.
Kay Barnett, do you mean how to make the structure or how to decorate a porch??? Big difference. If making structure is it flush with the ground or do you want more of an above ground type?? Do you want wooden or concrete or composite wood or another type of stone ( brick, flagstone, etc.) ??? Consider these and also consider how much maintenance time you want to spend. ( HINT: Wood will need more maintenance such as stripping, sanding, staining/painting and sealing every so many years depending on weather/moisture conditions.) Wood is very easy to work with on framing and joining to a wooden home just remember to reinforce so no sagging occurs. Concrete requires forming boards and if above ground level build up and reinforcing ( usually with rebar systems) and taller forms built. Block is another option for above ground that requires bonding agent between blocks and possible rebar inserts to keep in place. All above ground builds will require stairs of some type also. Stairs can be built or premade from home stores. Please repost your question with a picture or better description of what you want because you can see there are many options out there. Thank-you.
