Lots,of people do and you can tell. Very sloppy job, usually has runs, gets on hardware. Not a very prof look. Don't skip steps and do something you will be proud of, you'll be happy in the end.
I agree with Kelli. Painting around hinges is a pain. Trying to get a smooth finish is almost impossible. If the doors close against the frame how's that work!
We have..if you are very careful around the hardware it can be done. Use a very tiny brush next to your tape..hubs has a very steady hand,me,not so much! But we do take off the handles,number them,but the hinges ,we have just worked around them with the tiny brush. If you choose to take the doors off...BE SURE TO NUMBER! We also made that mistake with drawers. 🥴
