DON"T CLEAN them with anything but clear water and a very soft tooth brush ( like for a baby! ). hand dry, or use a hairdryer on 'low' heat and dry immediately. NEVER try to polish them, or use an abrasive cleanser of any kind. There may be a Numismatist club in your area that can help you ...
Hi ! To protect the coins get a product called renaissance wax , found on Amazon for $15 . This was developed by the royal British museum to protect armor and all sorts of artifacts . It goes on easily , just use a drop !!!! Rub It in , let it sit a few minutes and rub It off with a soft cloth . It dries smooth and not sticky or waxy & It goes a long way !!!! Then to display them , I would put them in a shadow box . To do this , the easiest way is if you place the shadow box on an end table or coffee table , you can just lay the coins in the box and your done ! If you want to hang it , I would get straight pins , plain or decorative , cut them shorter if necessary , stick them into the padded part of the shadow box , use them to secure or prop your coins in place , in the box . DO Not glue or tape the coins down , that could damage them !!!
Take picture frame the size depending on amount of coins, buy thin Styrofoam and spray paint color of choice and gently press coins far enough into Styrofoam to hold coins in place so no glue is necessary, put frame back together. Not sure it will work but would be very inexpensive so give it a try!
I liked all the suggestions and going to try it.
If the coins are valuable, frame them in a frame so large that any ill intentioned person would have a difficult time stealing them, as happened to friends of mine.
