How do I replace the rotting part of this wicker chair?
I’m painting this chair for my beach home. I flipped it over and the bottom is starting to rot. It looks and feels like hard cardboard. Not sure what I should use to replace it and how to attach it. Our home is on the water so I have to worry about saltwater.

They do not necessarily need to be rewoven as the seat is covered by a pillow...
Can you secure a piece of wood underneath the bottom of the chair And attach it to the existing bottom. Paint all the same color and put a Cushion on top. If that’s not possible, Make a cushion top with a piece of plywood and some foam and cover it with water proof fabric.
TY for your answer. I thought about a piece of wood....just not sure how to attach it. I am planning on getting a multi color pillo for it. I have a table I painted to match it.
