I would suggest spray paint but not sure light would shine through.
Hi Standing Still,
I would use spray paint over a primer or an oil based paint. However they wouldn't allow light to shine through. Glass paint might work for those, but they also might not hold up to winter. Can you store the statues inside for the winter? That would protect them much better. Here's a tutorial that will help with the painting. Wishing you the best.

there are paint for plastics, rustolum and krylon both have lines of plastic covering paint.
I repaint my outside ornaments every few years. I use craft paints for outdoor use. You can find them at most craft stores.
I use craft paints [found at any craft store or craft department] Then when it is dry, I spray over it with OUTDOOR SPAY CLEAR POLY] It must be OUTDOOR OR EXTERIOR SPRAY] Sometimes I do two coats for extra shine and protection. I have things painted over three years ago that are still pretty and shiny and still look like new. Have used it on wood and concrete and resin outdoor ornaments. For instance, I collect birdhouses which I have some painted over 5 years ago that still look fresh and new. Be sure to use outdoor poly sealer spray.
