You can buy a hanger kit that comes with the nail, hanger and wire for the back of your picture. If you are talking about framing it first, the thrift store has so many beautiful frames that can be either painted or used as is.
The link that Craft Invaders posted above is a great guide. If you're trying to create a gallery wall, you can cut out pieces of wrapping paper that are the same size as your pictures and then tape them to the wall to make sure you like the layout. You can also mark those papers with where the nail needs to go.

Like Natalie, the one trick I use is to cut out a template of your picture from newspaper, paper, or a paper grocery bag and tape it to the wall where you want to hang your picture. Then attach the picture hanger directly through the paper, tear off the paper, and hang your picture.
If you put two hangers on the wall a few inches apart then the picture will always be straight.
