Use Snocap available in Ace Hardware, scrub d some inside the toilet then add some to the tank. Do this once a month. Can also be used outside the house for iron stains from sprinklers, spray it on with a garden sprayer and watch the stain run off. Does not hurt plants.

Lowes has an acidic toilet bowl cleaner that takes it right off. It is just called "acidic toilet bowl cleaner". Wear gloves for sure. The first time you may have to do it twice to get it all but maintenance is once a month to keep it gone. I did it exactly by the instructions and worked great.
