How to finish a wall next to stairs?
I am looking to replace my old basement stairs - stringers, treads, and all. However, the wall directly next to the stairs consists of the concrete blocking for the basement. How do I frame the wall in connection with the stairs?

You can glue and screw 1X2 firing strips to the block wall, cover with drywall. Use Tapcon screws to screw into the mortar joints of the block. Construction adhesive to glue. Then attach the stringer.
You can glue and screw a 2X4 to the block wall at the same angle as the stringer. A few 2X4's verically under the angle one down to the floor for support. Attach the stringer to the angle 2X4. Stair treads and risers will cover it all.
Yep Tapcons are the answer.
Where the attachment point is at the top, make sure your rim joists’ framing is reinforced with long screws. Nails can “pop” over the years.
Building Code “typicals” but there are ranges: If you have room to make the “gait” on the stairs less basement like, now is the time to make the rise 7” and the run about 11”.
Hand rail needs to be 34” above the treads, as a rule of thumb.
The balustrade spacing is 4” between spindles, max.
No totally open risers anymore, sorry.
The hand rail can stop typically two risers before the bottom, but can be interpreted as three, by agencies.
All of this can be looked up in the International Residential Code, which is updated every 3 years.,
Hi Andrew, you can cut and glue any kind of wide or narrow molding as baseboards to give a finished look
