there is a hometalk article about how to refill purchased plug-in air fresheners with your choice of essential oils
I use a scent diffuser. I like the Essenza brand. Burning stick insense of a fragrance you enjoy is nice too. A pan of water simmering on the stove with vanilla is easy. A room spray of the fragrance you like can fragrance the air nicely as well.
Use a good quality essential oil or real vanilla for a healthy smell. Some manufactured ones use chemicals and one body need that in a home.
If you have pets, especially birds, check with your vet first. Many essential oils are harmful to animals.
Really check into what you choose to use. A lot of these products are actually harmful to the lungs of any person, animal, etc that comes into the house. There are a lot of reputable articles out there that talk about air fresheners and the harm they can do. Instead, open the windows and let the fresh air into your home.
You could use one of those plug-in air fresheners that you buy in the cleaning section of stores like Target. I used to use those, and my home always used to smell nice!
For an all natural way to add fresh scent to your home, you could make a stovetop pot pourri and use scents that you like: https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/cooking-tips-tutorials/a100532/how-to-make-stovetop-potpourri/
You could also make your own pot pourri using natural ingredients and a crockpot: https://www.crock-pot.com/archive/2015/september/make-your-home-smell-great-with-a-slow-cooker.html
