Yes, I would prime it first and then spray paint it using a stone paint.
If you are able to remove the frame (which you usually can with a mirror) you can make an easy wood frame to go around it. Alternatively, you can also paint the one that is on it to resemble wood if it is a good shape and removing it is too hard.
