Hi Carmen. Metal window frames are likely aluminum, not steel. This is critical as aluminum is highly reactive and cannot be painted with any latex product. Aluminum develops a white bloom on the surface (it is actually rust) that needs to be sanded off before it can be painted. Wash the sanded surface with TSP, then rinse thoroughly. Once dry, prime any bare metal with an ALUMINUM primer. It will be clearly labeled. Any DTM paint will then adhere to the surface. The products we used were Rustoleum aluminum primer and PPG DTM 100% acrylic paint in a custom color. (DTM = Direct To Metal). This process has held up on exterior aluminum subjected to hail, rain, freeze and thaw with no failure.
Are the windows interior or exterior?
Rustoleum 2X spray paint for metal. Tape off what you don't want painted. Also comes in cans so can be used with a brush.
Carmen, give them a good cleaning, then use Rustoleum 2X. I love this paint in a spray can (about $5.99) and in a couple of brush can sizes. Paints over metal, plastic, most styrofoam and other surfaces. Smooth as silk. Happy Spring!
Thanks....very good info and easy to follow....problem resolved..
